It’s claimed the jacket was originally designed in the 1930s by a company called ‘Baracuta’ as practical rain-wear for golfers, the previous long rain macs made it difficult to take a swing out on the course and this new, short, lightweight and roomy jacket allowed golfers to maintain form when the heavens opened. The Harrington jacket has been popular ever since. Originally called the ‘G9’, this style of jacket gained the nick name ‘Harrington’ from the 1960s television series ‘Peyton Place’ where it was worn by the character ‘Rodney Harrington’. Other celebrities noted for wearing the Harrington style jacket include the rock legend Elvis Presley in the movie ‘King Creole’ and the club 27 heart-breaker ‘James Dean’ in the movie ‘Rebel Without a Cause’.
Since then it has been popular with celebrities and general public alike being labelled as ‘The’ retro cool jacket, you can’t go to a single rock concert or punk gig without seeing a few of them being worn. This jacket is both stylish and practical. The Banned Apparel Harrington Jacket comes with the classic tartan lining gives a wonderfully contrasted flash of colour against the plain exterior, chunky elasticated ribbed cuffs and hem keep its shape and fit and is a roomy fit that’s suitable for both pleasant weather but allows space for other layers to be worn comfortably in inclement conditions so you can stay warm and still look good.
